What’s involved in abseiling window cleaning for tall buildings?

Cleaning windows on tall buildings often involves a specialist method known as Abseiling. This method is used if the building is too tall to use a ladder or a cherry picker. Abseiling involves using ropes and harnesses to move up and down the outside of a building safely. This method can only be carried out by trained professionals due to the strict safety rules involving this practice.

Abseiling window cleaning avoids the use of heavy machinery and can easily reach awkward areas. Before abseiling is planned to be carried out, the specialists will need to do a site assessment. This is to understand the height, shape, and access points of the building where they look for anchor areas to secure the ropes. These anchor areas go through rigorous testing to ensure they can support the weight of the cleaner and equipment.

The specialist cleaners are required to put on safety gear which includes a full-body harness, helmet, gloves, and other safety equipment. The technician uses two ropes, one for moving up and down and another for safety. The tools they usually carry are lightweight such as buckets, sponges and squeegees.

The most important part of this process is that the cleaning team keep in contact with each other as well as with someone on the ground to monitor the weather conditions. If the weather becomes too dangerous and unsafe, then the cleaning work will come to a halt to avoid any further risks.
