Cleaning windows indoors is a relatively simple job, requiring not much more than basic window cleaning equipment and some time. However, it can often be difficult to see how to clean outside windows, which may be hard to reach on multi-storey buildings, and are often much more dirty as a result of being exposed to all the dust, pollution and bird droppings that are present in the open air.
Firstly, it is important to have the right tools to deal with persistent, stuck-on dirt, such as that which results from bird droppings. In these cases, a plastic scraper must be used at a 45-degree angle to the window, to very carefully remove these unsightly splodges whilst taking care not to scratch the window. You will also need sponges and microfibre cloths to be able to properly clean and then dry the window, as usual.
Secondly, there are a range of tools and tricks which can be used to clean outside windows. In some cases, it may be possible to reach out of one window to clean another, allowing you to clean the outer pane without leaving the house! Where this is not possible, the easiest solution is usually to use a ladder to reach windows which are high up. Sometimes, however, this may not be possible for instance if the ground outside is not suitable for using a ladder. In these cases, the use of a tool such as a water fed pole may be appropriate, as this allows cleaning fluid or water to be applied to the windows without leaving the ground. In cases where none of these methods are suitable, however, the safest bet may be simply to hire a professional window-cleaning crew.
